While in Los Angeles, spending time with my friend, actor Shon Fuller. He showed me the social media design he created for his production of Arrival and Departure playing at the Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles. I was informed that he used the design to post on social media. I told him, “You need a better design—and I can help!”

With a background on and off Broadway, I called upon my knowledge of publication design in theatre to kick off the project. The design used bold sans serif fonts and eye-catching colors. I chose the color red as the primary color. The New Group inspired me to choose this attention-grabbing color.
I wanted to highlight the reviews in the social media design giving the readers more motivation to attend the production. The use of typography gives off a professional publication aesthetic that screams Broadway theatre in Los Angeles!

The original social media design lacked the fundamental design elements; typography was all over the place. A random “blockquote” was too distracting. An all-red background was very prominent. The color was an excellent choice; very theatre-esque. I felt like the color just needed to be used more subtly. I did away with the text that included the other actors and wanted to focus solely on Shon. Not that the other actors aren’t great, of course!
